reading management system. Students read a book, sit down
at a computer, enter their password, find the book, and

- The Oxford
English Dictionary,
published by the Oxford University Press, is now
available through subscription online. Subscribers will
have access to the second edition of the OED as well as
information that will be included in the third edition,
which is in progress. Individuals who are not subscribers
can view the word of the day.

- Nearly everyone has read the famous
story "Stone Soup," but have you read the magazine?
Stone
Soup magazine, created by
young writers and artists, is published six times a year.
Within the magazine, you will find fiction, poetry and
art. The web site links to quite a few stories, so you
can "sample" before you buy. The web site also offers

Business Center offers
on-line courses in a variety areas, including basic
grammar skills. These courses can be completed within 4-6
hours. They would be useful for teachers who are unsure
of their knowledge of language conventions, as well as a
suggestion to give to parents for students who need extra
help. Verio has three different subscription plans that
are tailored to different types of users. Go to the main

- If you use a Macintosh computer, you
can download this shareware entitled Vocab
1.5. (Shareware is
software you can download to your computer. After you
have done that, you mail a small payment, usually between
$10-$25 to the person who created the software.) You can
create flashcards on your computer in English and another
language, to test yourself or your students on new
vocabulary. You can also quiz your students on synonyms
for words in English or another language.
