  • California Mathematics Council is a professional organization that promotes mathematics education by fostering excellence and leadership in mathematics teaching, curriculum and instruction through teacher awards and conferences. It also promotes student interest in mathematics through scholarships for mathematics students' activities, and provides resources for educators, students and parents.

  • Digital Ventures, Inc., has created the Education Resource Network. The network is a huge database of resources for teachers online. Access to the resources will be free for 90 days after the network launch (in early 1999), then members will have to pay a fee.

  • Geometer's Sketchpad is a piece of software used for modeling and exploring shapes. Information on purchasing the software can be found at this site, or a trial copy can be downloaded. The software can be used in grades 5 &endash; 12. Added 11/28/00

  • This Idea Site for Teaching K-8 Magazine covers all curricular areas, with ideas for lessons, activities and more. You can order a subscription for the magazine on-line.

  • Math in My World, from McGraw-Hill School Division, has an integrated technology component called Math Van. Read more about it at this site.

  • Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth offers online Math Tutorials for students. Children can work on a particular grade level or subject area (for older students). Students must apply for the program. All of the tuition information as well as system requirements and application procedures can be found on the web site. Added 1/13/00

  • MathFax flashcards can help your students learn addition, subtraction and multiplication with one set of flashcards. The cards are reasonably priced, and the website has printable worksheets as well as ideas for school implementation. Added 10/11/00

  • MathKeys, a new math program from Houghton Mifflin, is available as a demonstration copy here. MathKeys is a K-6 math curriculum designed for Windows or Macintosh computers. Read more about MathKeys at this site, and give it a try.

  • The Public Broadcasting System sponsors MATHLINE, a resource service for teachers. MATHLINE utilizes a combination of online communications and video. You must subscribe to the MATHLINE service.

  • The Los Angeles County Office of Education sponsors TEAMS Distance Learning, a program in which students have learning experiences through the Internet and satellite broadcasts. TEAMS targets English/Language Arts, History/Social Science, Mathematics and Science.

  • The Verio Business Center offers on-line courses in a variety areas, including basic math skills such as fractions. These courses can be completed within 4-6 hours. They would be useful for teachers who are unsure of their math prowess, as well as a suggestion to give to parents for students who need extra help.
