Descriptions
Below are descriptions of various
workshops that are available to the teachers in the Grant
Consoritium.
Video and
Digital Cameras in the Classroom
Learn to use video and digital cameras. Create lessons using
programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Avid Cinema. Please try
to bring your school video or digital camera. We will have
some cameras on hand.
Beginning Technology for
Novices
Learn to communicate with your colleagues through
e-mail. Learn the ins-and-outs of Microsoft Outlook and the
basics of Microsoft Word. Also, learn what to do with the
two-button mouse, navigating around the computer desktop,
making and saving files, opening and closing applications
and Windows shortcuts. Bring questions that you would like
answered.
Integrating Your Curriculum Using
the Internet
Learn what the web might have for you and how to get
there without too much trauma. You will learn the
ins-and-outs of the Internet and strategies for using the
web. You will create web bookmarks your students can use to
support your curriculum.
Web Design
Come and build your own web page! Bring ideas and
pictures you would like to include in your web page.
Technology Collaboration and
Lesson Plan Support
Technology planning to incorporate technology into the
core subjects of language arts, math, science and social
studies.
Puppets and Computer Art for
Teachers
Hands-on workshop for easy-to-make puppets in the
morning, and experience with various computer art programs
in the afternoon.
HyperStudio 101
Learn or review basics of HyperStudio and work on a
project that could be replicated with your students in the
classroom.
HyperStudio 102
Bring a project you've already started but can't find
the time to finish, finish the project you started in
HyperStudio 101 or bring a lesson you've used for years and
would like to spruce up with a multimeda presentation. We
will use this time to review HyperStudio and make that
lesson plan to use with your class this fall.
Intermediate Technology
Learn to use technology to make your job more efficient.
We will use programs such as KidPix, PowerPoint and
Microsoft Word. Bring ideas of lessons and activities you
would like to produce.

If you or your school has a digital
camera that can be brought in, please do so! We will have
two digital cameras and one scanner available.
Getting to Know Your Computer
Learn to communicate with your colleagues through

for the Elementary School Teacher
Learn to use technology to make your job more efficient.
We will use programs such as KidPix, PowerPoint and
Microsoft Word. Bring ideas of lessons and activitiies you
would like to produce. Learn what the web might have for you
and how to get there without too much trauma. You will learn
ins-and-outs of the Internet and strategies for using the
web, citing resources and keeping kids focused while using
the web. You will create web bookmarks your students can use
to support your curriculum.
Usage and Creation of
Multimedia Applications
This class will focus on defining multimedia, providing
examples of multimedia, discussing the impact of multimedia
on education and introducing teachers to PowerPoint as a
multimedia tool.
Web Design
Come and build your own page using FrontPage Express and
online websites! Bring ideas and pictures you would like to
include in your web page.
Advanced PowerPoint
This class will focus PowerPoint within your classroom
for the presentation of material, and as a tool for student
projects.
Finding and Using Internet
Sites with Students
Learn some search techniques as well as information on
bookmarks/favorites and strategies on how to help your
students organize information from the Internet.
Using Filamentality to Create
Hotlists and Webpages
Learn about Filamentality and how it can help you create
hotlists, scrapbooks and samplers for use in your classroom.
Come with an idea for a hotlist or webpage!
Using Inspiration and the Writing
Process
This workshop will introduce participants to Inspiration
software, and discuss how Inspiration can be used in the
writing process with students.
Spreadsheets in the
Classroom
You don't have to be a mathematician to use
spreadsheets, either with students or for your own
record-keeping. Learn about using spreadsheets to create
charts and graphs as well as to organize information.
Classroom
Presentation Tools
Want to spice up your presentations? Try using
HyperStudio or PowerPoint to add some variety. This workshop
will show highlight types of presentation applications, and
give a brief introduction to them.
Databases Using
ClarisWorks/AppleWorks -- Easy to Use in the Classroom
Using databases can help both you and your students.
Learn how to create a simple database that either you or
your students can use to input and share
information.
