As we all know, content standards are
here to stay. Here are some resources that have published
student standards. Browse these sites to learn what is
expected of students.
- The Alaska
Department of Education Technology
Standards
has five technology content standards, each with
several performance goals.

- The ECTL/CTAP
Technology Based Performance Standards for
Teachers
are a detailed set of standards, delineating
four levels of proficiency: Personal Proficiency,
Instructional Proficiency, Mentor Proficiency, and
Leadership Proficiency. After reading the standards,
think about your level of proficiency and where you would
like to be. These standards have been created for

Educational
Standards and Curriculum Frameworks for

site. Standards and curriculum frameworks from various
organizations, many states, and several countries are

- The National
Educational Technology Standards for
Students cover six
categories,w hich should be touched upon and reinforced
in all grade levels. The web site also offers profiles of
specifics of what students should be doing in various

- New York State Systemic Initiative
presents information from their conference at the
Technology
Education / New York State Dept. of
Education
presents this very useful page on Technology
Education. It first gives "Thoughts on the Nature of the
Subject" which defines technology, as well as "technology
education" and gives types of activities for Technology
Education classrooms and criteria for such activities. It
goes on to give synopses of technology standards from 11
states, 2 national organizations, and three countries
(Great Britain, New Zealand, and New Guinea).

- The International Technology
Education Association is helping to administer
The
Technology for All Americans
Project. The
Association is in the process of refining the final draft
of "Standards for Technology Education: Content for the
Study of Technology." Their goal is to address issues
such as what students need to know to use technology.
Currently there is information about the development of
these standards and about the new project to develop a
6-8 Technological Studies series.

Society for Technology in
Education (ISTE) is a
professional society of teachers helping teachers use
