How do I use e-mail?

That's a great question! We hear about e-mail all the time, but if you don't know what it is or how to use it, it can be intimidating. Let's learn about it step-by-step.

First, you are probably connected to a computer if you are reading this. That's a great first step. Next, can you connect your computer to the Internet? If you already know how to do this, keep reading. If you are not sure, click here.

So you are connected to the Internet (or at least have access to it). Super! Now, what is e-mail? Click here to learn more.

Ready to get started sending? Do you know your e-mail address? If you are using an Internet service provider, you had to pick a screen name or user id when you signed up. The user identification or screen name that you chose could not have any spaces. Your e-mail address also does not have any spaces. Sometimes you have an underline between a first name and a last name, like yvette_abatte. (You have to hold down the shift key and the dash key at the same time to make the underline.)

Your e-mail address is that user id (all one word)
@serviceprovider.com or .net. For example, my e-mail address is yabatte@earthlink.net: yabatte is my user id, and earthlink.net is my service provider.

Do you know what program you are using for e-mail? If you are using AOL, click here. If you are using Netscape Mail for e-mail, click here. If you are using Outlook Express for e-mail, click here for a great tutorial. If you are using Microsoft Outlook for e-mail, click here. If you are using Eudora, click here.
