What is E-Mail?That's another great question! Electronic mail (or e-mail) is very similar to regular mail, but with some important differences.
When you send something by regular mail, you write it out, address it and drop it off at the post office. When you send something by e-mail, you write it out, address it to the other person's e-mail address (userid@serviceprovider.com) and press a button on your computer. Voila--your mail is sent! No stamps and no lines at the post office.
E-mail is usually much faster than regular mail--messages can be sent in seconds. However, the person on the other end has to be sure to check their mailbox! You can send e-mail to anyone who has an e-mail account, anywhere in the world.
E-mail also has advantages over the telephone. There are no long distance charges for e-mail. Sending something to New Zealand costs no more than sending something down the hall. You can send pictures in e-mail. Best of all, you can send and answer messages at your convenience--no call waiting!
